for Cinetalk.net

The Montreal en Lumiere festival is in full swing this week, and Cinetalk.net would like to highlight a few events. There are plenty of paid indoor happenings, but we’d like to focus on the free outdoor activities, which are mostly family-friendly.

Illuminart is a multi-media display of art that encourages viewers to become participants. As they move through the sculptures and installations, motion sensors and the influence of weather (such as wind), create interactive experiences of light, sound and images. The installations encircle the area of Place des Arts, so feel free to make a little treasure hunt of it, and try to find each installation – there are roughly a dozen! Fun for kids and adults alike!

If music and lights are your thing, there is also the Black-light presentations at the Energir stage. It’s a lights and fire show set to 80’s electro music. If music makes you groove, be sure to check out the annual Nuit Blanche, because there will be lots of music and dancing. Participate or watch, the choice is yours with DJ events, Salsa presentations, and vibing under the SATosphere with not only dancing but also mixology and tasty bites if you don’t mind pitching in an extra 5$ for the full experience.

And speaking of tasty, why not head over to “Cookies & Music” at Octave Cookie Shop for some live piano (jazz, improv, classics, depending the time of day), quality tea, cookies and fine chocolates! If your palate requires something a bit more refined, there is also the Mondial des Cidres.

Really, there is something for everyone, culminating in the all-night Nuit Blanche taking place in the underground city, metro stations, art galleries, and spreading across the city. Definitely check out the event programming to plot out your perfect entertainment course – there is so much to choose from, we could never highlight all the activities.
