Elite Zexer’s first feature, Sand Storm (Sufat Cho), Israel’s submission for the Oscar’s Best Foreign Language Film category, starts today at Cinema Du Parc.

While reacting to the second marriage of her husband, a Bedouin woman is confronted with the traditions of her clan because of her daughter’s involvement with a fellow student.

Zexer’s spent time on research on this subject that could bring controversy simply because it is made by an outsider. She manages to deal with the sensitive circumstances with tact. Although it doesn’t rewrite the book of film making, Sand Storm is a simple and straightforward tale depicting oppressive conditions with delicate attention to details.
