Shot on IMAX , Sully recounts the January 15, 2009 “Miracle on the Hudson”.  Captain Chelsea Sullenberg «Sully»  ( Tom Hanks) managed an emergency landing of US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River.

A personal drama rather than an action film, it recreates the scene of the accident  using various points of view  of passengers, crew, and  review of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Sully must question  his own decisions and face the guilt of a disastrous failure. Cut off from his loved ones and besieged by both the media and the NTSB, he nevertheless finds the courage he needs in a community that recognizes him, his colleagues, and his own judgement.

Sully is  a feel good drama told largely in flashbacks with, at times, some witty humor . The cinematography offers a subtle color palette revealing a New York under pondering clouds, foggy night streets and warm hotels with also close ups of Sully wondering if he deserves the title of hero.

Sully will be released on September 9.

Note : The end credits feature footage of the actual water landing and the reunion of captain Sullenberg with the crew and passengers.
