There is a curiosity coming out in North America: The Wave –  Action, from Norway!

The Wave sold over 141.000 tickets at home (there are only five millions people living there) on the first weekend of release. A film that aims at international markets, The Wave was also Norway’s official entry to compete for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards 2016.

This thriller, directed by Roar Uthaug with Kristoffer Joner (The Revenant),exploits the fact that mountain pass Åkneset will fall out one day and create a violent tsunami. It tells the story of a Norwegian geologist and his family caught in the middle of the deadly tsunami and their race against time.

A Hollywood style constructed action drama, The Wave doesn’t rewrite the book of filmmaking. It clearly favors action over substance and logic and the characterization is déjà vu, but the technical aspects are pretty well done and it provides spectacular moments.

If you are curious about a disaster film from Norway… then it is yours to discover:
